x men 1

The top-selling comic book last month was the X Men issue 1

X men issue 1 climbed to the top of the sales charts in June. But what caused this renewed attention for such an old-school classic? And why are collectors and people who sell comic books talking about it once again?

The (Uncanny) X Men comic series

The original X-Men comic series debuted in 1963, created by a legendary duo of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. At first, it wasn’t a huge hit – sales were fairly low, and the series was even canceled by issue #66. But things changed fast when writer Chris Claremont took over in the 1970s. His long run changed the team, making the X-Men one of the most popular comic series of all time.

The X-Men stood out because they weren’t just superheroes – they were outcasts. Mutants fighting for acceptance, constantly dealing with prejudice and fear. That deeper message was a bit unusual for readers back then, especially during turbulent times in the U.S.

Over the years, the series got some legendary arcs: The Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, Inferno, Age of Apocalypse, and House of M, most of which got their movie adaptations. The team lineup constantly changed, bringing in fan favorites like Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Gambit, and Rogue, among others.

In October 1978, the series was renamed “Uncanny X-Men.”

The X Men #1

Uncanny x men 1 launched in September 1963 and started what would become one of Marvel’s most iconic franchises. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, x-men #1 1963 introduced Professor X and his team of teenage mutants: Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, Iceman, and Angel. What was their mission? To protect a world that both fears and hates them.

Right out of the gate, they’re up against Magneto, who’s still one of the biggest villains in the Marvel universe. He attacks a military base, and the X-Men try to stop him, showing their powers and teamwork for the first time.

What makes x-men issue 1 juicy isn’t just the first appearances – it’s the foundation. This comic created decades of mutant drama, teamwork, and that conflict between peaceful coexistence (Professor X) and aggressive resistance (Magneto).
