Really bad customer service feels more like a warehouse not a comic shop no personalities and they definitely don’t pay diddly for your comic books shop around people before selling to these guys

Mike, Pete, and Dorian (sp?) were fantastic to deal with!! These folks really know their stuff about comics AND video games, and were really great people on top of it. Highly recommended if you have a video game or comic (or Magic the Gathering!!) need! Check them out and give them a call! A++ experience!

Has a pleasant comic and MTG card selling experience. Mike and Dorian sat with us in a room dedicated to the process, and went through all our items. They used live pricing estimates, sharing their on line sources with us, and explained their offers. They were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.

The epitome of geeked out Comic Capitalism. For those of us who grew up with these incredible pieces of art AND storytelling, this is the quintessential distribution center for collectors and just plain nostalgic folk. There are incredible displays for the wandering eye and bins and bins of cost effective illustrated options. Every imaginable comic and illustrated novel….available here. Collectibles galore. Sometimes it feels like a capitalistic museum from the Marvel and DC universe. Enjoy this little gem on the outskirts of Libertyville, right off of RT176 coupla blocks east of RT21.

I wanted to give a big shout out to the Comic Buying Center in Libertyville. I recently decided to part with a 251 issue comic book collection that I inherited 7 years ago when my father passed. I first did my own research with the Overstreet Guide. I subsequently brought my collection in for a free evaluation. I interacted with Mike and Pete and they were extremely knowledgable and professional. I felt that they offered me a fairly valuation for my collection which contained some rare and marketable issues. I chose to seek out a second opinion from a local comic book seller which was a nightmare. I was advised that I had nothing of value and offered $100 for my entire collection. This was either a dishonest attempt to obtain my collection for essentially nothing or the owner doesn’t really know his business. I returned to the Comic Buying Center and was paid $5,000 for my collection. Pete is a very honest and professional individual and I would recommend him and his business without hesitation. As my story above illustrates, there are many others in this business who are not so forthright. Choose carefully!

Peter is awesome. I highly recommend his shop. I had a large comic collection that I had been hanging on to since the mid-90s, and I finally decided to sell it. As he appraised my collection, Peter took the time to explain to me what some of the key comics were worth and why. I found him to be very knowledgeable and very honest ( something you won’t always find from people in his line of work).
Had some comics to sell for a relative. Explained the whole process up front. Great, easy, smooth, experience. Thank you.

Wonderful experience at Comic Buying Center today! I contacted Mike and we set an appointment to possibly sell my comics. Mike was so knowledgeable and friendly. He showed me around the store, offered me something to drink and walked me thru the buying process. HONEST. Very refreshing to experience. He offered me a great and fair price and we were done. It was so relaxed we ended up talking a little about our lives outside of comics. Great time today. Thanks Mike!

I was recently tasked with selling the large comics collection (around 7000 comics), of a relative’s estate. It was almost all DC silver age comics. Peter came to my home in Wisconsin and carefully walked through the process with me and made a very fair offer that day. His knowledge, experience and thoughtfulness made this a very pleasant experience. I’m so glad I called them first!

Randomly stopped by because we saw the “Comics 4 Less Store OPEN” sign on the street. A little weird to get into the building because there’s no other signage, but the comics inside were awesome! $2 for issues, $5 for trades. Great quality and selection. Really nice guys too! Definitely will come back.

    We buy More than comics

    Common questions about selling comics

What type of comic books are you looking for?

We are mainly looking for comics published between 1930 and 1979. However, there are many comics from that time-period that have little collectable value due to either lack of demand or low condition/grade. We do buy newer comics, but most of the comics from that era do not yet have much of a collectable value. We will be happy to appraise any comic book collection for you.

Are there other items besides comics that you are interested in?

Yes, we are also interested in sport cards printed before 1970, comic related toys before 1986, video games, and Magic The Gathering cards. If you think you have something we might be interested in, give us a call at 1-888-88-COMIC or submit the Free Online Appraisal Form and we can discuss this with you.

I have a large collection that is too large to bring in. Do you make house calls?

Yes, we do make house calls if your collection is too large or you are unable to drive to our showroom. Please call us at 1-888-88-COMIC to make sure that we would be interested in your comic collection. If we are interested, we will be happy to make a house call.

Is it worth grading my comic books. Does that increase their values?

Yes, usually grading comics increases their value, however most of the times it doesn’t increase the value by more than the grading fee. If you have never graded a comic before, it is important for you to understand how grading works and what constitutes a certain grade. You can search online for already graded examples of comics to see what a certain grade looks like. You can always stop by our office and we can show you examples of graded comics.

Do I get payment for my items right away or do I have to wait until you sell them?

After we evaluate your collection, we make an offer on the spot. You will be paid right away.

We inherited a collection and we don’t want to sell right now. Can we just get an appraisal?

We always want to assist you with any help we can. We provide a no strings attached free appraisal service for you. We are available anytime to do the free appraisal but we would prefer if you called ahead to set up a meeting. Please call us at 1-888-88-COMIC or message us on our website.

How much is each comic book that I have worth?

Most comics that are from 1980 to current are not worth more than their cover price. Most comics from this era are hard to sell for even $1.00. There are exceptions to that rule. For example, a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles # 1 from 1984 can be worth over $100,000!

Where do you sell your comics that you buy?

We either sell the comics at our store in Libertyville, IL or we sell them online through auction houses or sites like eBay. There are many different ways of selling comics and we have employees who have a lot of experience in finding the best ways to sell comics.

Comics before 1980 usually have the best chance to be worth a decent amount of value. Usually the superhero, horror, sci-fi, and romance comics are the most valuable. Comics from this era can range from $1 up to $5,000,000. Condition and demand dictates the values.

How do I know how old my comic is?

Almost every comic has their date listed on the bottom of the first interior page of the comic. It is sometimes hard to find, but if you look in the paragraphs at the bottom of the first page, it will be there. Sometimes with newer comics, the dates are posted on a random page.

The comics that have the best chance of being valuable have a cover price of 25 cents or less. The price is usually on the top left or top right of each comic cover.
