daredevil 168

The top selling comic book last month was Daredevil 168

This issue suddenly climbed the charts in August, getting attention all over again. Why, though? Why are fans and those who like to sell comic books put them back on the market?

The Daredevil comic series

The Daredevil comic series began in 1964. It was created by Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with design help from Jack Kirby. Issue #1 introduced readers to Matt Murdock, who was a blind lawyer with heightened senses fighting crime on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen as Daredevil. That debut gave him his yellow-and-red suit and a tragic origin story.

At first, the series was more about traditional superhero things of that time, but it all changed in the late 70s when Frank Miller stepped in. Storylines like Born Again (created with the help of David Mazzucchelli) and The Man Without Fear became classics. Daredevil also had notable crossovers, clashing or teaming with Spider-Man, Black Widow, and the Punisher.

More about Daredevil issue 168

Daredevil #168, published in 1981, is one of the most famous issues in the series. This is the very first appearance of Elektra Natchios, the deadly assassin who also happens to be Matt Murdock’s former college love. What a twist, huh?

The story tells us more about Matt’s emotional mess. He runs into Elektra years after they parted, only to discover she’s now a contract killer. Their reunion isn’t sweet – it’s complicated, violent, and not without unresolved feelings. This tension between love and betrayal changed Daredevil.

Collectors like this issue not only for Elektra’s debut but also because it’s Miller’s first major stamp on the series as both writer and artist.
