All American Comics

All-American Comics is a foundational title in the Golden Age of comic books, known for launching some of DC’s most iconic characters and helping to define the superhero genre. First published in 1939 by All-American Publications, the series ran for over a decade and served as a proving ground for many legendary heroes.

The most famous issue, All-American Comics #16, released in 1940, introduced the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott, a mystical superhero whose glowing ring would inspire generations of lanterns to follow. This issue is widely considered one of the most important debuts in Golden Age comics.

Throughout its run, All-American Comics featured a mix of superhero, humor, and adventure stories. In addition to Green Lantern, the series introduced other memorable characters like the Atom (Al Pratt), Red Tornado (Ma Hunkel), and Doctor Mid-Nite. The comic also played a crucial role in establishing the Justice Society of America alongside titles like All Star Comics.

The series ended with issue #102 in 1948, after which it was rebranded into All-American Western as superhero stories began to wane in popularity post–World War II.

Collectors continue to prize early issues, especially #16, #19 (first Atom), and #25 (first Doctor Mid-Nite), which have become valuable assets in the vintage comic market. If you own Golden Age comics and are thinking about whether to sell comic books, All-American Comics issues are among the most desirable and historically significant you can offer.
