The Silver Surfer

The top selling comic book last month was The Silver Surfer 4

Silver Surfer #4 was one of the best-selling comics in April, and it’s easy to see why. This issue is a fan-favorite, known for its stunning cover art and…something very cool! Which makes it very popular among people who like to sell comic books. But why exactly is it so popular?

The Silver Surfer comic series

The original Silver Surfer series debuted in 1968, created by Stan Lee and artist John Buscema. But the character was first introduced earlier by Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #48 (1966). What made the solo series unique was its focus on philosophy – Stan Lee used the Surfer’s cosmic perspective to explore big themes like humanity, war, and morality. Unlike many other comics of the era, this one was more thoughtful and deeply emotional.

The series only ran for 18 issues, but is still considered a cult classic. Over the years, the Surfer has teamed up with major Marvel characters like Doctor Strange, Thor, and Adam Warlock, especially in cosmic crossovers like Infinity Gauntlet. The Silver Surfer #1 was an oversized issue and retold the origin of Norrin Radd, a noble man who sacrificed everything to become Galactus’ herald.

The Silver Surfer #4

Silver Surfer 4, published in February 1969, is a famous issue in Marvel’s Silver Age. Created by Stan Lee and John Buscema, the story, titled “The Good, the Bad, and the Uncanny!”, shows a dramatic confrontation between the Silver Surfer and Thor.

In the silver surfer issue 4, Loki, the Norse god of mischief, seeks a powerful ally to defeat his brother Thor. He manipulates the Silver Surfer, convincing him that Thor harbors evil intentions towards Earth and Asgard. Loki improves the Surfer’s powers and transports him to Asgard, where the Surfer challenges Thor during a grand feast.

A fierce battle follows, showing us the Surfer’s cosmic energy clashing with Thor’s godly might. However, as the fight progresses, the Surfer discerns Loki’s deceit and ceases hostilities. Recognizing the manipulation, Thor and the Surfer part ways with mutual respect, and Loki, frustrated, banishes the Surfer back to Earth.
